Large battery refit for Boreal Sjø

Boreal Sjø has chosen Norwegian Ship Design for the “next generation upgrade” of MF Karlsøyfjord. The Vessel formerly owned by Norled (MF Ryfylke) will be upgraded with battery systems, power electronics and fast charging from shore. MF Karlsøyfjord will undergo minor upgrades, a design facelift as well as a universal design upgrade at Fiskerstrand Verft, before starting operation at Molde-Vestnes from 1 January 2021. The next generation upgrade is preliminarily planned for 2021 at a yard not yet decided.

We were also chosen for engineering the conversion from LNG fuel to diesel fuel on the sister vessel MF Harøyfjord. The conversion, scheduled for Q4 2020, includes replacing all four main engines, building new diesel fuel tanks and systems, a design facelift as well as a universal design upgrade. MF Harøyfjord will from 1 January 2021 operate alongside MF Karlsøyfjord at Molde-Vestnes.
